talked about expanding the assault weapon bill. connecticut does have an assault weapon ban, the ar-15 which was used is not assault weapon. so part of the discussion has to be well what is an assault weapon, and the banning of -- with the expansion of the list stop this from happening as well? and i think we're going to have to look at a lot of data and make sure we're making progress in the right direction, and not just putting a band aid on it. >> jennifer: yeah -- go ahead. >> last night i put in mario war fair on youtube, and mario brothers -- it was a ten-minute youtube of a guy walking down the hall shooting everybody, but those type of cultural exhibits did not exist 30 and 40 years ago, and are we bombarding our children with that? and the reason why that's important is because if we want to examine in its entirety this whole cultural experience this phenomenon if you will should we talk about that? and i understand the first amendment issues are just as sensitive as the second amendment issues but i think we need to be bold in our conversation and discu

of the precious little children who were killed in connecticut last friday. what can you say? my heartbreaks for them and their parents -- my heart breaks for them and their parents and the people of newtown. i looked at the picture of little caroline previdi, one of the 6-year-old children who died. i'm sure she was a happy child, full of life's potential, just like my own little caroline who just turned 7 a few days ago. what can you say? it's unthinkable that a person would kill innocent little children with such cravenness and violence. these children's christmas presents are still under the tree. their moms and dads are still looking at them. in this town, will we pride ourselves on rhetorical flourish , precision of thought and volume of words, what can you say? what can you do? other than stand in solidarity, in spirit with the grieving families and perhaps, just perhaps hug those that you love a little bit tighter. now, madam speaker, the sandy hook elementary school tragedy is sparking a national debate about how and why this happened and how it might have been prevented. that debat

gun control. this is all in the wake, of course, of that tragedy in newtown, connecticut. vice president joe biden will be meeting with law enforcement officials today in the first step of a push to end gun violence. the nra is expected to speak out tomorrow in its first news conference since the tragedy. and abc's jake tapper joins us from the white house. with the very latest. you asked the president yesterday in the news conference, where have you been for four years on this issue to eradicate semiautomatic weapons? >> reporter: that's right. then-senator biden had written that ban into law in 1994. but it expired in 2004. the vice president will be meeting with chiefs of police who support reinstating that ban. and the president will be reaching out to lawmakers to try to come up with post-newtown solutions. president obama had promised the citizens of newtown meaningful action. and in a morning press conference, he explained what that meant. an administration focused on preventing future tragedies by focusing on mental health, culture, education, and gun control. >> the fa
